Safe Kids Chicago teamed up with FedEx volunteers and Matt Forte of the Chicago Bears to host a Halloween-themed pedestrian safety assembly for 300 students at Stephen K. Hayt Elementary School on Oct. 27 in Chicago, Ill.
Thirty-five lucky students were chosen to join Forte and participate in several interactive safety stations which addressed helmet/bike safety, crosswalk safety, and learning about blind spots around vehicles.
At the end of the assembly, students signed a safety pledge and FedEx announced a $10,000 donation to Safe Kids Chicago. The donation is meant for future pedestrian safety improvements around the school, including updating signage and creating a crosswalk between the school and Centro Romero, an after-school organization across the street.
