PARNTERSHIP: Safe Kids and Chevrolet/GMSafe Kids WorldwideSafe Kids was launched in 1988 to address what was then a little recognized problem: More children under age 14 were dying from what people call “accidents” (motor vehicle crashes and other injuries) than from any other cause. Today Safe Kids Worldwide is a global network of organizations whose mission is to prevent accidental childhood injury, a leading killer of children 14 and under. More than 450 coalitions in 16 countries bring together health and safety experts, educators, corporations, foundations, governments and volunteers to educate and protect families. Safe Kids Buckle Up and Chevrolet/GMThe largest program of Safe Kids Worldwide is Safe Kids Buckle Up, operated in partnership with Chevrolet and General Motors. GM has sponsored Safe Kids Buckle Up since 1996, and Chevrolet joined as the key partner in 2004. This powerful partnership has enabled more than 700,000 families to have their car seats checked at one of our community events, through one of our inspection stations or through our brightly decorated mobile Chevrolet vans that travel the country. At any of these events or locations, nationally certified child passenger safety technicians help parents learn to properly place their children in the correct restraint for the child's age, weight, height and developmental needs. Then the parents learn how to place and secure their car seat or booster seat in the car. All services are free. Should a replacement car seat be needed and available at one of our sites, drivers may obtain it at cost. There are no free car seats available to the public.
