Mexico's Model School Zone Project
- School Name: To Be Determined
- City: Mexico City
- Number of Students: To Be Determined
It is estimated that more than 20,000 lives are lost due to road traffic accidents in Mexico. Each year, one-third of the lives lost are pedestrians. More than six children die on their way to school every day. The poor infrastructure around many schools in Mexico City does not provide safe environments for children to walk to and from school.
Safe Kids Mexico will partner with local stakeholders, including school administrators, parents and the police, to implement the Model School Zone project.
Where We Are
Oct. 25, 2012 - We are working with the Mexico City education board to gain permission to implement the project at a selected school.
July 23, 2012 - We are in the process of selecting a school in Mexico City. The final selection will be made in August. Once a school is selected, we will develop a working committee and a baseline assessment plan.
May 9, 2012 - Our project is scheduled to begin in June 2012.
