In its statement, Safe Kids Worldwide applauded the goals and action steps outlined in the World Report, and committed the weight of its 17-member country network in support of the WHO/UNICEF’s call to action to reduce the number of childhood injuries and deaths around the world.
Nov. 12, 2008 - PHOTOVOICE: Children’s Perspectives on Road Traffic Safety gave kids in Brazil, Canada, China, India, South Korea, the Philippines, and the United States the opportunity to document with photos and words the road environments they encounter as they walk to school. The goal of PHOTOVOICE is to help kids learn proper road traffic safety and become safer pedestrians.
In observance of International Walk to School Month, a reception for PHOTOVOICE was held at The World Bank in Washington, D.C., on October 21 to highlight the results of the project and celebrate the collaboration between The World Bank and Safe Kids Worldwide’s Walk This Way program in addressing children’s road safety issues. Mitch Stoller, President and CEO of Safe Kids Worldwide, joined Katherine Sierra, Sustainable Development V.P. at The World Bank, and David Ward, Director General of the FIA Foundation, at the opening of the exhibit to call attention to international efforts to improve road safety for kids. The international PHOTOVOICE exhibit was also displayed at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in Atlanta, Ga., at the Safe Kids Child Injury Prevention Conference in Washington, D.C., and at FedEx Asia Pacific Headquarters in Hong Kong. Stoller, who joins Safe Kids Worldwide from The Marrow Foundation, the fundraising arm of the National Marrow Donor Program (NMDP), has served as chief executive at the Lance Armstrong Foundation (LAF) and the Christopher Reeve Paralysis Foundation, where he was responsible for increasing funding from $1.6 million to $16 million.
