Pioneering Safe Kids Initiatives In 1987, Martin R. Eichelberger, M.D., and communications specialist Herta Feely approached Johnson & Johnson with a vision for a comprehensive national campaign to protect children from their leading killer — accidental injury. Johnson & Johnson shared this concern for children and a vision for a safer world, and the company agreed to provide the funding necessary to launch Safe Kids Worldwide (formerly the National SAFE KIDS Campaign). Since then, Founding Sponsor Johnson & Johnson continues to support Safe Kids year-round, with millions of dollars in grants, public awareness campaigns, advertising and retail promotions. Each year, in May, Safe Kids and Johnson & Johnson work together to present Safe Kids Week in the United States. This multifaceted effort combines community safety events and media outreach with retail promotions that reach millions of households with lifesaving information and tips. Coalitions around the country host thousands of events during the week, where kids, parents and caregivers can have fun learning from interactive safety demonstrations and receive safety devices and educational materials. Johnson & Johnson is also a generous sponsor of the annual Safe Kids Leadership Conference in October. This conference is an opportunity for state and local Safe Kids coordinators and others working to prevent accidental injury to children to gather in Washington, D.C., to share and expand their knowledge. Johnson & Johnson helped launch Safe Kids Worldwide’s international efforts and continues to sponsor programs and infrastructure in many of our member countries. About Johnson & Johnson Johnson & Johnson is the world’s largest and most comprehensive manufacturer of health care products. Safe Kids Worldwide is grateful for Johnson & Johnson’s support and commitment to children everywhere.
