Frequently Asked Questions

1. What's a small parts tester and where can I get one?

Small parts testers, also known as "choke tubes," are designed for testing which objects are small enough to pose a choking hazard to kids ages 3 and under. If the item fits into the tester, then it is too small for a child this age.

You can order small parts testers (in quantities of 25) from the Safe Kids Resource Catalog. Many discount stores, toy stores, hardware stores and safety device catalogs sell the testers individually.

2. What is an age-appropriate toy for my child?

Check out our toy safety checklist. It offers tips on toy selection and safe play.
