Vietnam's Model School Zone Project

The School

School Name: Nguyen Thi Minh Khai Primary School
City: Dong Nai Province
Number of Students: 615

The Issue

A high percentage of the 615 students at Nguyen Thi Minh Khai Primary School walk to school every day. These students come from some of the poorest families in the area, and more than 16 percent have been hit by motor vehicles while walking near the school. Major challenges the children face during their travel include a lack of safe sidewalks and crosswalks and an exposed drainage channel that forces them to walk along a road with high traffic volume.

The Project

To tackle the challenges these students are facing, Safe Kids Vietnam will install warning traffic lights, cover 248 meters of the drainage tunnel and build a new sidewalk.
