All Safe Kids Worldwide member countries participating in Walk This Way work to conduct research, collect data, improve their environment, educate children, and raise public awareness of pedestrian safety issues for children.
Korea
- Visit Safe Kids Korea
Safe Kids Korea held a Walk This Way ceremony in Seoul in April 2005 that reached over 1500 students.
Throughout the year Safe Kids Korea and FedEx volunteers educate children and distribute educational materials and a variety of safety devices to students, including wrist reflector for children, posters containing pedestrian safety tips and teaching manuals.
The Walk This Way program is also active in Busan and will reach 60,000 children in 100 schools this year.
China
- Visit Safe Kids China
After two successful years of educating children in Shanghai, the Walk This Way program was launched in Beijing in April 2005.
Guests from the China CDC, the Chinese Ministry of Public Security, WHO, Unicef and U.S. Embassy attended the event, where child pedestrian death data was announced in China for the first time.
This year the program is expanding to Guangzhou and will reach of 350,000 Chinese children.
Safe Kids China will distribute teaching manuals at 700 schools and conduct classroom education at 580 schools.
Philippines
- Visit Safe Kids Philippines
Safe Kids Philippines held a Walk This Way event in Manila in April 2005.
Throughout the year volunteers conduct classroom education on pedestrian safety, paint cross walks and conduct walkability checks in public schools in Pasay, Paranaque, and Olongapo.
Over 35,000 children in over 50 schools will be touched by the Walk This Way program this year.
Brazil
- Visit Safe Kids Brazil
Safe Kids Brazil developed a Hands-on Guide that was released on September 2005 to be distributed to teachers, community leaders, and
government agency leaders.
The booklet contains national and local pedestrian injury data, a guide to establish a pedestrian safe environment at schools, suggestions of educational activities that teachers can apply at classroom.
As a part of Brazil’s National Traffic Week, Safe Kids Brazil conducted a "Walking March" that involved over 200 people, including children, parents and teachers. The goal was to generate public alert for a safer environment to pedestrians.
Canada
- Visit Safe Kids Canada
Last year Safe Kids Canada produced the community guide entitled Making it Happen - Pedestrian Safety Community Resource and a pedestrian safety information presentation for conducting pedestrian safety workshops.
This year Safe Kids Canada developed a pedestrian safety fact sheet for parents and caregivers that is available via the Safe Kids Canada partner network. This one page resource compliments an easy to use, comprehensive information package also designed by Safe Kids Canada.
